Welcome to the Faerie Feast!
After your have gained your wings, you are met by a feast on the second floor with all that the forest can offer you. Tables and chairs are set up everywhere along the walkway between the houses, allowing the new visitors to meet and greet - or try to hide in the corners and eat berries all by themselves.
Try your new wings to be the first to grab those delicious crumbs of walnut bread? Or say hi to your party lights, courtesy of some excited glow worms and flies that just want to be your best friends.
Explore how your new gem works, try put your leaf clothes or decide to head further into the tree, seeing just what kind of place your have stumbled into. Maybe you will even get a glimpse of those hairy legs on the fourth floor?
[Umi's too relieved to talk about honorifics, locking hands with Fuu. The relief is short-lived, though, and her brows knit in worry over the absence of their redheaded friend. She shakes her head.] I was hoping she would be with you, but...I haven't seen her, either.
[And in a bizarre place like this? Anything could happen. Anything. What if she tried to fly and hurt herself? What if some creepy bird came along and ate her?!? The possibilities are endless. And terrifying.
At the proposal that they find her by flying, though, Umi looks totally uncertain.] E...easier? I'm not so sure that's a great idea, Fuu...I haven't even tried them yet!
[Fuu's eyebrows contract likewise--their thoughts are running along similar lines. Hikaru is excellent at getting herself into trouble and the world is full of many dangers when you're centimeters tall. Like spiderwebs.] If both of us are here, then she must be somewhere as well... we should find her right away.
[But Umi's hesitance about the wings gets a big grin.] Then we should try now! This is the first time I've ever had wings. It would be a good idea to get accustomed to it.
This was the best day of Agitha's life. At long last, she was the size of a bug! Being the same size as her subjects would surely be a boon to her role as princess of the insect kingdom. They were even so kind as to gift her with this lovely new castle, a feast, and... the wings! Oh, the wings were such a delightful present. She had always wondered what it would be like to fly with her insect brethren, and now she could wonder no more. She approached the banquet spread out before her with the poise expected of royalty, her glittering pixie wings (that looked strikingly similar to the butterfly wings that adorned her dress) fluttering gently.
"Oh, I simply must thank you all for this wonderful welcome! I humbly accept your delightful offerings." She announced to anyone who would listen. "Let us feast!"
"Er... yes," said Iolaus, looking a little green around the gills at the mention of eating bugs, how gross. "Though I suppose there are birds that subsist on other things. Nectar. Small animals."
Come to think of it, he was about the size of a hummingbird now, wasn't he? How disturbing...
He coughed. "Please excuse my rudeness; it seems I've forgotten to introduce myself. I am Iolaus oz Mehelim. Please feel free to call me Iolaus."
A horrified gasp escaped a little girl sitting nearby, her hand flying to her mouth. Agitha had taken a seat close to the kitty man, because his ears looked so soft and she was so curious as to how fluffy they were. But now she wasn't so sure that was a good idea.
"That is a very naughty word you just said, sir!" Bad kitty. Bad.
[Looked like Arno found someone who fit right in with the whole crazy world. Letting himself finally deciding to mingle and meet the poor souls who came along, it was interesting to see who was actually not freaking out about the whole situation.
Peach being one, this girl being the other.
He seriously cocked a brow her way, until she spoke he could mistake her for a normal resident.
Maybe it was totally strange she was so open about it. But in any case, he gravitated her way. His wings having a mind of their own and fluttering constantly.]
Well, mademoiselle, you look like you could fit right in this little kingdom we found ourselves in.
[Oh, and it knew French. By now, not the weirdest thing by a long stretch. They had crossed that line with "giant pigeon". Oh, and being kidnapped and obtaining wings he guessed. That too.]
No, I never have. Zaofu is too far from either portal, and we've never had much to do with spirits.
[They've been said to kidnap people who live in towns that have done something ruinous to the environment, as well as rampaging. But this doesn't fit. Zaofu wasn't built in any particularly spiritual place.]
I've just read accounts written by people who have. I would have thought if this was the work of spirits, they would say something.
Only that were you to climb higher up this central shaft [he gestures to point with his beak] it ends in a dark hole covered with a spiderweb, and what may be a spider beyond it! We cannot ascend beyond that, even outside of the tree - nor can we go far in any other direction. It is as if this is in a glass bowl.
[The answer's out of Korra's mouth before she gets a good look at the person talking to her, but once Korra does, she does a double-take. Those clothes--Korra recognizes the style and Kuvira's face is one that's familiar to her now that she's looking.]
...Kuvira?
[She's sure it's her. She's heard enough about the work Su's former Captain has done in the Earth Kingdom to forget the name that easily. ]
[Kuvira's eyes widen, her wings partially spread. She is maybe a hand's width shorter than Korra, though her helmet makes up a chunk of the difference. (In character sheets they specify that Captain Kuvira is about the same height as Korra, and then Great Uniter Kuvira is the same height as three-years-later Korra.)]
[Korra's own wings--a soft, translucent, silvery blue in color-- give a flutter of surprise when Kuvira confirms her suspicions.]
Yeah, I was. Now I'm recovering. [Her voice goes a little curt at the reminder. The sting of Toph's accusation, that she wanted to stay in this half-healed state to escape her Avatar duties, hasn't quite faded yet, and it sharpens her tongue.]
Or I would be, if I wasn't just dropped here all of a sudden! Where the heck is this place anyway?
*Alundra, perhaps sensing this might end in danger, starts to walk below where she's flying.* If it's too high, come down! We'll have to try something else.
[Sore spot. Kuvira has no idea what's going on. She hadn't had much to do with the Avatar on her visit, or during the mission to the Air Temple, but the impression she'd had had been different from the young woman before her now.]
...I'm sorry, Avatar. I spoke without thinking.
[Well this isn't good news. For an instant there Kuvira had been relieved - even if the Avatar isn't the bridge between humans and spirits anymore she's had experience with them.]
I thought this was the Spirit World. You've been there - isn't it supposed to be stranger than this? [Wings and giant trees and people looking different are *weird* yes, but the only thing that doesn't look like it should be talking and is is a giant white bird.]
Hyrule. *Alundra rolled the word off his tongue.* I don't think I've heard of that kingdom before. But I guess we're all from different kingdoms. *Alundra doesn't seem to mind whatever accent Link has, or even care.*
It's good to meet you. And this might be a strange question coming from someone you just met but, are you also from the Clan of Elna? *Alundra tugged on one of this own rather long pointy ears.* It's really rare that I meet someone like me.
Hmmmm. *The human with the cloth on his face had a point.* Well, if we have wings, obviously, we're meant to fly. We might have to gather food and to do that, we'd need to leave the tree. And...suddenly being this small kind of presents a lot of dangers that just occurred to me.
In his hands was part of his sugar rations that were hidden in a thousand tiny pockets, rations which Gaius was increasingly convinced would become a very limited supply; it was a bit of taffy, which was promptly stuffed in his mouth upon hearing the voice...and more importantly, the fact that she accepted his offerings? Cripes.
"I'm-" Chew, swallow. "-not sharing." He'd just sprouted a pair of moth wings. This was his sugar time of need.
[Korra instantly draws back, feeling bad for snapping at her. She might like that Kuvira's doing her job while she's been struggling to find her footing again, but she can't blame Kuvira for that. This is a poor way to treat someone who'd saved her dad in battle before.
Korra looks to the side, jaw clenched.]
Sorry. I'm just...frustrated. It's not your fault.
[Korra gestures to the area around them, brows furrowed.] This isn't the Spirit World. At least, it doesn't look anything like it. [Then, she looks over her shoulder at the wings.] And I sure didn't have these the last time I was there either.
