Would it be too sentimental if I said the people I met? I will cherish their friendship for the rest of my life. [Pause.] But it was also fun to see all the strange things there. [and Umi's reaction to them]
Why did you think of making paper first, Orcelito-san?
That’s not sentimental at all! It’s very noble, I think.
I rely on having paper for my work. When I came here and I didn’t have access to it… I realized how much I couldn’t do. How much everyone couldn’t do. And since others were taking care of our survival needs, I was able to devote my time to finding a way to write again.
What does the word “san” mean when applied to the end of a name?
It's amazing, how many things we took for granted. Even things like string and bottles are a trial to figure out when we're so tiny, and with only bits of tree to work with. [She smiles.] I'm glad you took on the task. Being able to write things down is one of the most important things humanity invented.
Oh, 'san' is just a polite way to address someone... like Mister or Miss, I think. I use it for almost everyone I know. [unless she wants to feel clever by using Mr. / Miss for English and/or European-sounding names.]
What do you think of Sir Owain? [IMPORTANT QUERY. she's smiling. almost-not-quite a grin]
[Lady Fuu! Is it polite to ask his opinion of a person in public like this..?] Ah… Sir Owain is… a fine and heroic fellow! He comes to the mortars often and he works very hard. It is partly in thanks to him that our production of paper is as high as it is.
What is something we lack here that you would greatly desire to have again?
[Polite? Maybe not. Fun? Definitely.] I agree! He's very enthusiastic and energetic about helping, no matter what he does.
[She smiles a little ruefully at his question.]
Again, I have to answer 'my friends.' Maybe it's selfish to wish them here, but I know they would want to be at my side--we pledged always to fight together, no matter what, and I hate to break that promise.
What do you like most about the tree, if anything?
The Tree itself? I don’t know… I’ve never been in a place like this so I have no basis for comparison. [He actually doesn’t like living inside of a giant tree, so he dodges the question.]
[Yup, she notices that dodge. But if he's dodging, she'll be polite enough not to try again.]
I like to read about history, and fantasy--well, on Earth they're fantasy stories, about wizards and spirits, and that kind of thing. But they're quite real in other places. They always have such interesting characters.
If your job at home involves paper, do you have much time to read or write for pleasure?
[Well, 'interesting character' can be used in a non-meta sense, so she'd say yes either way.]
Hm, not any specific story, but there are bits and pieces that are familiar. Being taken to another world, being a tiny person in a huge world, and solving magic riddles are all things that I've read [or played] in fiction.
Do you have any martial skills, or are you purely a scholar?
I am trained in the use of the sword and spear, and I’m well-read in warfare and military strategy. But I don’t have personal experience on the battlefield.
Given the choice, would you like to retain your ability to fly when you return to your world?

[Orcelito wonders if that’s how she thinks of some of the people here: ‘interesting characters’. But he’s not going to ask. Instead…]
Have any of the stories you’ve read resembled this place?
[You shouldn’t ask that, Your Highness, you might knock a wall down somewhere…]
