WEEKLY UPDATE May 11 - 17

weather
The weather seems to have calmed, making way for blue skies and sunlight again. Temperatures will slowly rise over the week, stopping at around 80ºF/27ºC for the weekend.
No rain is expected this week, and winds remain as a simple breeze.
flora
The dandelions are popping up everywhere, overshadowing all other plants. A few early mushrooms are also sticking up their tiny caps on the south side of the tree, but they are the inedible kind and will cause a stomach ache if eaten.
fauna
With the birds daring to sing again, rabbits are coming to visit once more, lured in by the abundant dandelion leaves. One of these rabbits seem interested in digging a burrow by the tree, but will be scared away as soon as she sees any of the tree dwellers... but she'll come back a few hours later.
On Thursday, a snake come slithering in from beyond the mist. It's a European Viper, and will see the adventurers as lunch if disturbed.
events
• The mysterious man and his odd music has disappeared, making room for bird song and silent nights again. His disappearance has left a mark, however - near one side of the tree's mist boundary, a small stream (10 inches across) flows briefly to the reachable side of the mist before disappearing out again. It's a another good source of fresh, clean water - and items put in the stream will be taken by the small current and brought outside the mist. (This does NOT include characters.)
• A crack in the mirror has shattered the side quest, and the backlash flows over the tree. Failing the gift of fire, all fires are extinguished and cannot be relit, and where Eren's fire used to be is now a huge, pulsing firefly, too fat to move and hot enough to burn when touched. Like all fireflies and glow worms, characters can use it to fry, boil and cook!
• Someone is messing with your dreams... watching you sleep, even hiding under your bed?

Who leads the Night?
Who leads the Day?
Join their hands before the Heart of the Tree.

For a gift of fire, pour the lifeblood of the oldest over the youngest.

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
A new IC page for the quests will be added for every new quest that appears, starting with the remaining Main Quest.
It will be linked in the Weekly Update for easy access.

Don't make her have to follow you crazy folks on viper adventures to heal. Just kiddingAs mentioned in the meeting thread, right over here, Vala will also at some point be collecting information about everyone in therms of species, any illnesses, allergies and the like. Plus bother Orcelito because lets put that paper to good use! Beyond that, she's free to come with on viper adventures if anyone wants a goatlady.

Your Weekly Writing Supplies Update!
Paper production was slow thanks to the rain storms and creepy violinist. However, Orcelito did manage to get out a nice batch of about ten pages, which he split between all those who helped.
So if you offered to assist in the paper-making in this thread, congratulations! You’ve been given one sheet of the first paper to be made! :D Use it wisely!
Paper takes a lot of time to make from scratch, so it will be available on a very limited basis. If your character wants some, they’ll be able to get a page or two a week simply by visiting the mortars outside or House 12. (Obviously, you don’t have to do this IC unless your character has a special request or is just CR building.)
Writing Instruments
We have a nice selection of feathered quills, wooden pens, and paintbrushes to choose from. All of them are made for dipping in ink, which leads us to our final obstacle…
Ink and inkwells
Thanks to the charcoal Orcelito got from Eren’s fire on Thursday, the ink is ready! But alas! We still have no inkwells, so any dye or ink that is created can only be stored in the open containers (cups or bowls) that come with the houses. This means that it will evaporate within a couple of days.
House 12 is willing to share their recipe for dye and ink so others can make some for themselves, but it’s time consuming and wasteful to have to make your own every two days. So inkwells are still needed.
IMPORTANT: Now that charcoal is no longer available, and with no way to preserve the ink once it’s made, House 12 is sticking to dyes in order to avoid wasting the valuable charcoal they have left. (Yeah, I know the dyes are lighter and hard to write with, but we’ll have to make do.)
Production of ink will resume once we have jars to keep it in!
-
The project is so close to being 100% done! I’ll start working on creating a page on my character’s journal that will go into more detail. For now, ya’ll are updated. Go forth and write!

GO AWAY FATASS DX
Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. He despises this stupid fancy magic crap.

Oh, and possible confused by the giant guy mess and a bit curious about the river and the crack in the mirror possibly (inwardly) freaking him out, and making him think of other ways they could get home.

Also said here, those people who wanted to be in the pseudo-militia that Chora and others proposed, it's a good idea to start organizing where would they be during the quest in case things go awry?

VIPER ADVENTURE
I was thinking since snakes are stealthy little things, it would likely get the drop on Our Heroes sometime during the day and maybe other people could pitch in to fight it. Which I guess means Fuu is gonna get ambushed, good thing she has a big sword.
Or if more people want to jump in / it would be easier to arrange, we can have it get away from the initial fight and come back to fight more dudes.
Also since we're prolly gonna kill it, it would probably be a good idea to harvest it! There's meat, which I don't think would be toxic to them since it's not like vipers have poison in every part of their body (someone with more advanced herpetology feel free to correct me on this), and there's loads and loads of bones that they can use to carve needles or utensils or knives, plus the skin if we can muster sufficient resources to preserve it. Also it might be useful to collect the venom if anyone wants poison weapons or something. (Harvesting is kinda complicated it looks like and they probably won't be able to preserve all the snake, but just bits of it will still be useful.)
At this size I think it's safe to say a bite's gonna be fatal unless you get some healing in you stat, although it's apparently slow-acting. But really if you've had a GIANT HOLE PUNCHED IN YOU by a snake fang you may not be moving too much anyway. Anyone want to have significant injuries and a healing crisis?
