Welcome to the Faerie Feast!
After your have gained your wings, you are met by a feast on the second floor with all that the forest can offer you. Tables and chairs are set up everywhere along the walkway between the houses, allowing the new visitors to meet and greet - or try to hide in the corners and eat berries all by themselves.

Try your new wings to be the first to grab those delicious crumbs of walnut bread? Or say hi to your party lights, courtesy of some excited glow worms and flies that just want to be your best friends.

Explore how your new gem works, try put your leaf clothes or decide to head further into the tree, seeing just what kind of place your have stumbled into. Maybe you will even get a glimpse of those hairy legs on the fourth floor?

[The girl looks like she could have Earth Kingdom ancestry, but... the hair. Hair colors that aren't black or brown, or gray, are extraordinarily rare on Kuvira's Earth. Maybe it's Varribleach.

She can sense any metal on Fuu. There is so little stone and earth and metal here, things stand out more to her bending.]

Fae? If these are spirits, they probably wouldn't have a great deal of structure, but something is responsible for this.

This doesn't seem as strange as what I would have expected from the Spirit World. [yes, being tiny and winged and in a giant tree isn't as weird as the Spirit World.]

[Nope, just Anime. As for metal, there's some on Fuu's glove, and there's her light armor--any metal that Kuvira would recognize, however, is only to be found in whatever small fasteners are on Fuu's school uniform. The rest is Cephiran magic metal.]

The Spirit World? May I take that to mean that you have visited other worlds before?

[Less strange is good, Fuu supposes; at least it means this woman isn't liable to panic. Unless things get more strange.]

No, I never have. Zaofu is too far from either portal, and we've never had much to do with spirits.

[They've been said to kidnap people who live in towns that have done something ruinous to the environment, as well as rampaging. But this doesn't fit. Zaofu wasn't built in any particularly spiritual place.]

I've just read accounts written by people who have. I would have thought if this was the work of spirits, they would say something.

Hmm. I'm afraid I haven't had the benefit of such literature. Do these accounts offer any advice on what to do if one is abducted into their realm?

[She might as well be asking what the weather will be tomorrow for all the worry she's showing here.

And the name Zaofu... sounds vaguely Chinese, and this woman certainly looks like she's from that part of the world. Which brings more and stranger questions to mind and reminds Fuu of the thing she noticed before.]

Oh, pardon me. If it's not too impertinent, may I ask about your armor?

It seems there was a lapse. Typically the Avatar interceded for the luckier cases.

[Kuvira's voice is cool and dry. She's not given to emotion, so if she's not raising her low voice she seems measured and not particularly concerned.]

My armor? It marks me as part of Zaofu's security force. I altered it to fit the change. [It looks pretty heavy and reasonably comprehensive - the wide-legged full pants and sort of skirtlike deal might hide leg armor - but she seems to be doing fine under it.]

[...Luckier cases. Okay. Filing that away then!]

I see. But it may not be the Spirit World, if this does not match the descriptions.

[Fuu leans forward a little to get a better look at the wing openings, touching her fingertips to her chin. It is indeed the armor of a full-fledged warrior and not exactly the sort of thing you just take a pair of scissors to.]

May I ask how? In all other respects, it appears quite solid.

It may not be. Tell me about these 'fae' you mentioned.

[Her wings move a little under Fuu's scrutiny before she can still them.] I used my bending - I'm a metalbender. [Here is a second person for whom that rings no bells.] ...I am attuned to Earth and metal, and I can move them and change their shapes.

Hm... they can be capricious and willful, and often mischievous. I believe there are stories of them stealing human babies and living in mounds. But there are also stories where they are helpful. [Like Tinkerbell... and the fairy that Fuu has personally met is capricious, willful, and helpful all at once. Fuu doesn't know if Disney counts.] Very strongly magical beings, too.

Ah! That is something I have never heard of before. Is it a form of magic?

[personal profile] betterthanwu 2015-03-07 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
They do sound something like spirits. Do you know of them doing something like this.

[A minimal, efficient gesture of her helmetted head indicates the situation in general.]

No - only small children call it magic, basically. It's an expression of my chi. I'm an Earthbender - there are also Waterbenders and Firebenders, and some Airbenders. It's not uncommon. You don't have anything like that? [It's so weird and unthinkable. Worlds without bending! There had been a charismatic bloodbender who wanted a world like that operating in Republic City last year, she remembers.]
monster_san: Look of WORKING THINGS OUT (My eyebrows and I are THINKING)

[personal profile] monster_san 2015-03-11 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Not on this scale. I have met one fairy, but I know she wouldn't do something like this. [Primera wouldn't be capable and she's way too busy being possessive of tall, dark, and handsome swordsmen anyway.] But I'm not an expert in that lore.

[It really is impressive how controlled this woman is. Fuu wonders if she's really as calm as she looks.]

I'm able to use wind magic, but that's the proper name for it where I'm from--and I have friends who are skilled with other elements, but there are other methods. [She's fairly sure Clef's magic is non-elemental. Of course, he's incredibly powerful. Then there's Caldina's hypnotism and Ascot's summoning....] It sounds like bending is something different.

["Chi" sounds pretty logical as a source for magic and Fuu would peg it as the source for Magic Points in most cases, but it's not the same as "strength of heart".]

[The world - or this other world, rather - does not work the way she feels it should. 'Magic' as a concept that isn't nonsense, a childish way of looking at bending and the things the spirits can do. The captain has to just deal with that.]

It... seems so.

If there's this much variation this might not even be the work of the sorts of... fae or fairy that you know. Something entirely new wouldn't be out of order.
