Welcome to the Faerie Feast!
After your have gained your wings, you are met by a feast on the second floor with all that the forest can offer you. Tables and chairs are set up everywhere along the walkway between the houses, allowing the new visitors to meet and greet - or try to hide in the corners and eat berries all by themselves.
Try your new wings to be the first to grab those delicious crumbs of walnut bread? Or say hi to your party lights, courtesy of some excited glow worms and flies that just want to be your best friends.
Explore how your new gem works, try put your leaf clothes or decide to head further into the tree, seeing just what kind of place your have stumbled into. Maybe you will even get a glimpse of those hairy legs on the fourth floor?
It seems there was a lapse. Typically the Avatar interceded for the luckier cases.
[Kuvira's voice is cool and dry. She's not given to emotion, so if she's not raising her low voice she seems measured and not particularly concerned.]
My armor? It marks me as part of Zaofu's security force. I altered it to fit the change. [It looks pretty heavy and reasonably comprehensive - the wide-legged full pants and sort of skirtlike deal might hide leg armor - but she seems to be doing fine under it.]
Yeah, a kid. [Korra seems to catch onto Kuvira's worry when she glances at her, amending her statement hastily.] Oh, don't worry. I changed back to normal the same day. I just accidentally stepped on some spirits and made them angry when I first got there...
[Now a pout forms on her lips as she remembers that particularly disastrous start to the trip from years ago.] It's kind of a long story. Anyway, I might still have trouble with the spirits sometimes, but I'm pretty sure this isn't them. They don't need stones like this to change us, if that's what they wanted to do.
[She isn't liking where this is going.] ...I guess that means someone else is responsible for this.
[There's a tight knot of worry in her chest, and this realization doesn't loosen it at all. She hasn't figured out what's wrong with her yet--what if she isn't ready for whatever this new threat is going to throw at them?]
[Just be glad they weren't spirit insects, Fuu. Those definitely get upset when they're stepped on.
Korra just gives a disgruntled huff.]
Seriously, though. What's with the sparkly wings, and the rest of the stuff they left around? It's like they want us to stay here.
[She frowns, looking off to the side when she actually thinks about what she just said. They can't exactly leave while they're looking like this, can they?]
I... see. [Spirits are weird.] That's good to hear, I think.
[The Avatar is here but ultimately has no more idea of what's happening or what to do than she does. So much for that. Now they have to figure things out from square one - still, if Korra is here, she will be able to do something about it. Kuvira has, maybe, a twinge of resentment for Korra not being around as infrastructure starts crumbling in the slow wake of the Earth Queen's death, though she knows it's not something she can help. She can put it aside.
Kuvira hesitates before reaching out to touch Korra's shoulder, cautiously.]
You'll figure something out. You've come out of more extreme situations than this one before.
[She can also sense whatever metal's on him. With the paucity of stone and metal in the tree, what there is stands out more.]
I'm an Earthbender.
[This doesn't seem to get the oh of course response she was expecting. Kuvira blinks, a crack in her cool persona. Other worlds, sure. Other worlds without bending? Maybe they're just worlds where it goes by different names.]
I... can manipulate the element of earth. It's something I'm attuned to, so I'm able to feel it from some distance.
A shield? You really think that's going to do anything?
[Ice starts to form in the air around him, condensing into chunks and lengthening to form wicked spears. It's funny how Thalg Al-Salos seems almost pedestrian and boring now, but anything more would be overkill and there's nothing fun about utterly obliterating your opponent before you have a chance to gloat. Plus, it's not like this is a real fight, anyway. He's just playing.]
There won't be enough of your ass left for anyone to care about.
Probably. [ By that, she means absolutely. No use leaving something undone.
She fiddles with the Thorn on her left arm, and after a few seconds it starts glowing a mild green instead of its usual dark red. ]
Hold still.
[ With a practiced motion she snaps the Thorn forward until it attaches itself to Yoshitsugu's injury. It would heal within a few seconds - such is the power of Will'O technology. Of course, it was necessary, seeing that people died on a daily basis.
After it is done, she retracts the Thorn and it coils back around her arm. ]
It was hard not to notice the rather unhappy-looking young man nearby. The look on his face sparked Fuu's curiosity as well as her sympathy--he looked more, well, peeved than distressed about their new situation.
She decided to put on a friendly smile and went over after picking up some bread herself. "Do you mind if I join you?"
I see. But it may not be the Spirit World, if this does not match the descriptions.
[Fuu leans forward a little to get a better look at the wing openings, touching her fingertips to her chin. It is indeed the armor of a full-fledged warrior and not exactly the sort of thing you just take a pair of scissors to.]
May I ask how? In all other respects, it appears quite solid.
Yes, it does rather appear as though we're in for an extended stay. I must admit, I'm quite curious about who brought us here and why.
[The first time Fuu got sucked into a different world, her caller helpfully dispatched someone to guide her and her newfound companions. Odd that here, they're being left to fend for themselves.]
Evidently, our opinion on the change is irrelevant to them.
[Though she's still calm and smiling, that last sentence is slightly less airy and unconcerned.]
[She looks up in surprise when she feels the touch on her shoulder, expression a little conflicted. Though this is a less than ideal way to be found again, part of Korra knows that the past six months on her own have been hard and lonely. It'll be nice to be around people again, no matter how much part of her dreads not living up to the expectations they might have. A memory surfaces--the old man and woman staring down at her with disappointment and confusion, asking Are you sure she's the Avatar?
Korra pushes that thought away. She'll just have to work harder and prove them wrong. She'll prove that Toph was wrong about her, too.
Korra hesitates, then covers Kuvira's hand with her own briefly.]
Thanks. If there's someone behind this, we'll find out who it is, and make them return everyone where they belong.
I dunno. If they're so pleased with what they've done, then why haven't they shown themselves? Looks to me like they know we'd all give them a piece of our minds if we knew who they were.
[Korra finds a branch to flit over to and lands there, giving her wings a rest.]
It would be a lot easier to figure things out if we knew where the heck we are.
Hey, now! What's the fun in it if I can't even defend myself, hmm?
[Kid seemed serious, though, and he'd fought enough black mages in his days to know that it would hurt like a hedgemole under your feet if he was hit with any of that.
Bleeding wasn't really that attractive.
Sigh. This was what he got for being a loudmouthed old bastard, wasn't it? Nhagi would be laughing right now.]
I wouldn't mind going exploring with this place with you. It's probably safer for us to look around in groups in case of giant spiders. *Or who knew what else.*
[He's glad that she wasn't permanently scarred, at least. Her comment about his ears makes him chuckle and he gives her an amused look.
Most other miqo'te would have been standoffish or even insulted by such a comment, but T'or simply wiggles his ears a bit.]
The softest in all of Thanalan, little lady. Would you like to make sure?
[He kneels down before her, the slightly messy white hair falling over his shoulders. While technically soft, some of the grey hairs he was getting more and more of might be a little courser - but he's still happy to entertain her curiosity.
It's an odd music, and it sweeps into the room like a fast paced swing number, making his feet tap and his head bob lightly with the beat. It's hard to imagine ever sitting at the corner of the room pretending to be invisible when there's something like that stringing him along for the ride.
'What's the name of the song?' he asks, as she passes.
