Oh, yes. Far fewer than there were once, but I'm familiar with humans. One even went to my school - part of an experiment to see if she could integrate, you see. Does it show?

Fewer? Does this mean they are an endangered species? No, it does not, though I do not know you well enough to be able to say that.

Sad but true! There's a long sordid history there which I can condense into simplicity by saying there was plague, and war, and we and they don't always get along even now.

Hm. It is disconcerting to hear that. Humans have been the most enduring of the species where I come from.

Well, naturally the humans don't want that. Possibly more relevantly there are certain organizations among the many species of birdkind who would regret the loss.

An interesting turn of phrase. What does that mean? Clearly you're able to think and communicate. I don't know many weapons that can do that.

It means that I was summoned to battle, under normal circumstances. When the war ends, I will simply fade.

There are those here who still need of my service. We were summoned and antagonized by an unknown force, thus my sword is at the disposal of the tree dwellers.
